Итак, механизм аккумуляции тепла атмосферой с его разнообразными обратными связями может эффективно сглаживать довольно значительные колебания притока тепла. Поэтому наша Земля с ее атмосферой — очень хорошая оранжерея, и это обстоятельство, конечно, сыграло важную роль в возникновении и дальнейшем развитии жизни на Земле. Поскольку свойства атмосферы, играющие важную роль в определении парникового эффекта, обусловлены главным образом присутствием в ней водяных паров, которые, конечно, имелись и в первичной атмосфере, можно считать, что этот эффект проявлялся уже на заре геологической истории.
