Сложные предложения составлены из двух и более предложений, соединенных союзом. Это могут быть равноправные предложения или главное и придаточное предложения.
Трудные случаи перевода сложных предложений мы обязательно рассмотрим дальше, но их не так много.
Прочтите внимательно предложения:
1) In the mid-1960s, Intel Chairman of the Board Gordon Moore deduced a principle or "law": the computing power and the complexity (or roughly, the number of transistors per CPlf chip) of the silicon integrated circuit microprocessor doubles every one to two years, and the cost per CPU chip is cut in half.
Предложение является сложносочиненным с тремя равноправными частями, соединенными союзом and. Подчеркнуты полные подлежащие.
2)This law has continued to be true for over three decades, because it is the main explanation for the computer revolution, in which the IA plays such a significant role.
Предложение в целом является сложноподчиненным, о чем говорят союзы because (потому что), which (который).
Подчеркнуты полные подлежащие.
Естественно, предложение — не единственный правильный способ выражения мысли. Мы часто говорим и иногда пишем «непредложениями», особенно когда отвечаем на вопросы в диалоге. А общение с компьютером — это просто собрание «непредложений»!
Лексика и чтение
Упражнение 10. Составьте предложения из слов в скобках, объясняя термины. Добавьте слова, необходимые по смыслу, предлоги и союзы.
computer —(device, to perform, high-speed, operations, basic component)
keyboard — (arrangement, keys, to enter, into, manually) display — (representation, data, visual, screen, CRT)

Упражнение 11. Просмотрите текст и отметьте предложения в повелительном наклонении/ Imperative Mood . В остальных предложениях подчеркните сказуемое. Поставьте вопросы к этим предложениям, используя вопросительные слова how? what?
