Documents of Life and Activity of the Nobel Family. 1801 - 1932 / Edited by Prof. A.I. Melua. Volume 4. - St. Petersburg: J.S.C. Humanistica Publishers, 2011. - 480 pp. with illustrations.
The next published series of documents is dedicated mostly to problems of diesel engine construction and work of machine-building enterprises. The published documents discuss the manufacturing of diesel engines and other equipment at the Ludwig Nobel Plant in St. Petersburg and at the Kolomna Machine-Building Plant. BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THE PUBLISHED DOCUMENTS
The documents discuss also the participation of Nobel Plant engineers in designing equipment and energy systems, and their participation in charity activities.
General Director of a large company for installation of power equipment, «SGEM» V. Migurenko comments some of the stages of power engineering cooperation of Russia and Germany. In the 19th century the important business tradition of joint work were founded. The energy projects, successfully developing in our time, are using historical experience of cooperation.
The General Director the instrument-making company «Constanta» Dr. W. Syasko sums up the experience of the Nobel Family firms on engineering and developing of devices. These devices represented as a separate product (such as adding machines) and were a mandatory attributes of more extensive engineering programs (like diesel building).
General Director «Diesel Energo JSC» (St. Petersburg) A.V. Lazarev presented an article «CONTINUING INNOVATIVE TRADITIONS IN DIESEL ENGINE CONSTRUCTION AT THE LUDWIG NOBEL PLANT». The enterprise management principles at the Nobel plant in St. Petersburg and the development of these traditions today are discussed in the article. Almost a century ago, in 1913, there was an advertising brochure published in St. Petersburg, entitled «Ludwig
Nobel Plant: Diesel Engines for Stationary Equipment». Today a copy of this brochure is kept at the enterprise. We present a reprint of this brochure in the appendix to this article. The products described in the article used state-of-the-art technological advances of the time in heavy energy engineering. To this day this document can serve a model for presenting hi-tech products and their manufacturer. The ^ enterprise today still sees its goal as being the
of theJSC pioneer of the enterprise industrial policy.
«<Diesel Energ0» Diesel Energo Production Corporation was
(St. Petersburg) founded following the reorganization of the
5
Russky Diesel Production Corporation, the company that goes back to October 1, 1862, when it was founded as the Ludwig Nobel Plant where the first diesel engine was created in 1899. This engine used raw oil, and not kerosene, as previously, for fuel. It was there on the plant that the first ship engine and, later, the first reversible engine were designed. Throughout the 20th century the plant developed designs of improved and new diesel engines that could perform tasks no engines by other contemporary manufacturers could accomplish. Starting from the 1950s diesel engines of our custom design have been installed on special purpose ships of the Russian navy, and military ships of other countries (Algeria, Bulgaria, Vietnam, India, Indonesia, Cuba, Germany, Romania and Croatia). These engines proved to be reliable and easy to maintain. New modifications of these engines have been therefore included in the list of main ship units in the design process of modern military ships. Since the late 1970s the enterprise has been supplying diesel generators to nuclear power plants. These generators can be used as sources of electrical power for cooling down nuclear reactors in case of their failure. For over 40 years we have maintained an impeccable record of safety and reliability of our products. New and upgraded diesel generators have been designed for modern nuclear power plants. This equipment complies with all contemporary requirements and technologies. As of today, Diesel Energo JSC has supplied safety equipment for more than 50 nuclear reactors. Diesel Energo JSC has specialized in manufacturing diesel generators and power diesel engines for ships and vessels with the capacity of 3,500 - 6,600 kW (4,750 - 9,000 horse powers). The company also provides warranty and post-warranty servicing of this equipment. Diesel Energo JSC equipment has been designed with safety in mind, and corresponds to all applicable environmental standards.
